I just agreed to a licence that clearly states that I may only install any plugins I purchase here on a single server. Before I do this, how rigid is this condition?
Because we support a fair number of people we never install a plugin onto a live site but send it through at least one local developer installation, then a sandbox and then a test server before it is released onto the production site. This chain of test machines is mirrored when moving between Elgg versions so we may occasionally be running 7 or more machines with similar installations, even though only one real site exists with actual users (apart from the developers and testers using machines hidden inside a VPN). It starts to get quite costly and complex to follow this process if we need to pay for each installation and would prevent me from purchasing the plugins in most cases. Unfortunately, because the non-commercial variants are often very stripped-down when compared with their commercial brethren they do not give enough indication of the effects of the full thing.
So - can the licence be more flexible?
