Jim, there may be a few reasons you're experiencing this problem:

1 version 2.7 don't import links from older versions, they have to be re-input manually. We changed way links are stored to make whole mechanism more efficient.

2. you may have htmlawed plugin enabled. It shouldn't cause problems although please try disabling it and check if it wasn't the cause

3. in version 2.7 and higher, there is no longer support of userlinks. This feature was too complicated for most of the users. In case you had links defined as userlinks, you would have to re-define them again.
