you probably defined too many links in topbar which means they can't fit the screen when browser's window is smaller (eg. with lower resolutions). I would advice you to define more dropdowns and move links there, otherwise the links will move below the topbar.

That was my first thought too.  But I only 3 links in the topbar (Home, My Profile and Mail) and only the Mail link i created in the topbar links.  I also thought the number of boxex i had shown in the setup may be holding places.  So I reduced that number to 1 since thats all I have set. 

How can I remove the chat button and make it a topbar link instead?

Sonny, please find in your chat plugin/start.php line with elgg_extend_view and 'topbar/extend' and comment it out. You can add link to chat in your topbar settings afterwards.

Please also use the topbar's forum for support - other users of vazco_topbar plugin will be able to benefit from your questions then as well.

My (continuing) problem with the topbar is that it interferes with the running of the mail mod. Clicking on the mail icon while the topbar is running brings up the dashboard page unless the user has new mail.

Cannot seem to be able to post on the topbar discussion page.

Jim, I don't know the mail mod. Could you send me a link to this plugin?

You can try changing order of the plugins. If mail mod changes paths to inbox page though, it may be required to fix it.
